Sunsets At Pier 60 5K #4

Sunsets At Pier 60 5K #4 - nice event with nice people on a nice night. Not sure taking the kids was such a wise idea. Ended up carrying my son on my shoulders the entire time, and my daughter asking every 1/10 of a mile if we were almost done. I guess it could have been worse. But I think next time, if I can't go alone or have someone watch the kids I probably should just skip it.

Treadmill

So I took off a week after my last run to let me legs recover. Nearly every day I've had some weird pains and such, but for the most part today they felt pretty good. I got a break at work, had some energy and wanted to get a run in. I decided to stick to the softer surface of a treadmill instead of an outside run. Things went pretty well until 20-25 minutes in. Started getting soreness but no real 'pain'. Then : bam : a pain shot through my right calf. I've never experienced calf pain before. I have no idea wtf is going on. I think I'm going to make a trip to the doctor just to get his opinion. I'm more angry and annoyed than anything and I'm inclined to say f-it and run through the pain.

Painful 5 miles

I originally planned on running this evening, but got a break during work and thought I'd get it done. I really didn't want to go and I felt if I didn't "just do it" I might talk myself out of it. I started off great, just over an 11 min pace for my first mile, then my right ankle started hurting. A lot. I tried for a while to keep running but eventually gave up and had to walk the rest of the way. Combine the ankle pain with the absolute energy drain from the heat and I just couldn't do it. I'm really going to have to either start doing mornings or continue with nights. Or, bleh, start doing the treadmill. I really, really dislike summer..

Second night run - first RAIN run!

My second night run, I think I like running at this time - at least during the summer when it's too hot during the day. Got all ready to go then the sky opened up with a torrential downpour. Waited. Stopped waiting and went running in the rain. Whatta ya know, it's not bad. It's actually.. nice. So I went outside in the rain on purpose. To run and work and make myself uncomfortable. On purpose. In the rain. :: blink blink ::

My first night run

First time running at night and the temps being low(er) was rather nice. Of course it made getting up this morning harder. Either way I'd been itching for a run for a few days and took what I could get. It was a very last minute decision but I'm glad I went. Bonus, according to Strava I even had a few PRs. 1k, 1 mile, 2 miles and 5k.

All work and no play

Worked until 6:30 am so no exercising today. I'm simply way too tired. Hoping to be able to make it to the Shriner's meeting tonight, but work is building way up..

Too busy with work to get a run outside, so I hopped on the treadmill and got as good of one as I could.

Run (07/09/12)

Had a great run with Megan today. Managed to get it in before the rain, thunder and lightning started. It was hot and humid, but did our best to stay in as much shade as possible.

Run (07/07/12)

My son and I went out for a run today. Had to sneak one in and he really wanted to go. A little professor gadget in turning the bike trailer into a stroller and off we went. He had a great time, even if it was a bit hot for both of us.

33rd Annual Kiwanis Morton Plant Mease Midnight Run/Walk

It was just me and the kids for this one since the wife unfortunately couldn't get off of work. I fully expected to be stuck with the kids cranky (way past their bed time) and arguing over who got to sit in the stroller while I pushed the along. I also fully expected to walk the mile and leave asap afterwards with crying kids. Amazingly, none of that happened. The kids were completely excited to be there. When the 'race' started, Megan wanted to sprint as fast as she could! Soon Cole was telling me he wanted to run and so there we were, Cole holding my hand and running along side me and Megan running on the other side of me. And there I was, pushing an empty stroller.

It was an extremely well organized event, the kids had a great time and when Cole saw the finish line he ripped his hand out of mine and made a mad sprint for it. I guarantee this won't be the last event they want to go to.

The Sheltering Sky

One of my favorite quotes..

"Because we don't know, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens only a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five more. Perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless." - Paul Bowles, The Sheltering Sky

I Love Fathers Day 2012 5K

My first 5K of the year, and on this journey of getting back into shape (again). It was good to at least set a baseline. Also helped me make the decision that when possible, I'm going to do my running outside. It's hard to go from training on a treadmill to the first thing I notice is the pounding of the street at an event.
